About this Job

We’re hiring a Straw Mouthfeel Experience Designer to obsess over the most overlooked interface in modern beverages: the straw-to-lip connection.

This role exists because sipping is not just an action—it’s a feeling, a ritual, a moment of trust between human and polymer (or paper, or whatever we’re pretending is sustainable this year).

As a Straw Mouthfeel Experience Designer, you will study texture, resistance, temperature transfer, edge geometry, and that first millisecond when lips meet straw. You will ask hard questions like: Is this too smooth to be trusted? Too rough to forgive? Why does it squeak? You’ll prototype, test, sip, pause, and sip again—always in pursuit of a straw that disappears from awareness while still doing its job.

You’ll work closely with materials, sustainability, and beverage teams to ensure mouthfeel consistency across iced coffee, smoothies, and drinks that sit untouched for 47 minutes.

Success is measured not in metrics, but in the absence of complaints, the lack of distraction, and the quiet thought: “This straw feels… right.”

Requirements:
– Deep empathy for lips under pressure
– Strong opinions about paper vs plastic (but the maturity to keep them internal)
– Ability to describe sensations that language was never meant to capture
– Willingness to test straws at uncomfortable lengths

If you believe great design is felt more than seen—and that a bad straw can ruin an otherwise perfect drink—we’d like to hear from you.

Employee Requirements

Exceptional sensitivity to texture, pressure, and edge finish at the point of contact
Ability to articulate subtle sensory differences without resorting to panic or dramatics
Strong understanding of how time, temperature, and moisture affect straw integrity
Patience to repeatedly test the same drink for science, not enjoyment
Comfort working cross-functionally with materials, sustainability, and beverage teams
High tolerance for paper straw disappointment
Attention to micro-details most people will never consciously notice
Willingness to form and defend strong opinions about “acceptable sogginess”
Ability to remain serious while discussing absurdly specific problems
Deep respect for the silent role a good straw plays in the overall experience

Culture

We are a team that takes small things seriously and serious things lightly. Our culture is built around thoughtful obsession: caring deeply about details most people never notice, and respecting the quiet impact they have on everyday experiences. We believe great work often lives at the edge of absurdity, where rigor meets curiosity and humor is allowed in the room.

Here, questioning is encouraged—especially questions like “Does this feel right?” and “Why does this squeak?” We value patience, sensory awareness, and the courage to slow down in a world that rushes. If you find meaning in refining the invisible, enjoy collaborating across disciplines, and can hold a straight face while discussing mouthfeel for 45 minutes, you’ll fit right in.
